For centuries, lighthouses have served an important role: they have kept mariners and other seafarers safe. By illuminating rough stretches of water through their powerful beacons of light, they help prevent nautical accidents. Lighthouses also serve as bright artificial beacons that allow navigators to guide their ships home.
